January 11, 2008 – The fourth holiday season has passed since Marlene MacEwan lost her husband, Bob, to lung cancer. Now, like the American Lung Association of Oregon, the Surgeon General and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, MacEwan is urging everyone who has not yet tested their home for radon to do so in January during National Radon Action Month.
January 10, 2008 – For the sixth year in a row, Oregon received a failing grade in tobacco prevention funding, according to the annual American Lung Association State of Tobacco Control (SOTC) report issued today.

December 12, 2007 – “The Overlook” condo development opens in North Portland, making it one of the first smokefree condominium developments in the Portland metro area. The Overlook’s no-smoking policy covers all indoor common areas and units, as well as its outdoor balconies.
October 22, 2007 – At its October 19th meeting, Oregon College Health Association members voted unanimously in support of the following statement: “The Oregon College Health Association supports, promotes, and advocates for initiatives to create tobacco-free environments on campuses and encourages all Oregon colleges and universities to be diligent in their efforts to achieve a campus-wide tobacco-free environment.”
October 15, 2007 – The American Lung Association of Oregon (ALAO) applauds Portland State University (PSU) for its decision to end cigarette sales in its campus store.
September 26, 2007 – Oregon community college students are frequently exposed to secondhand tobacco smoke on their campuses, and most students agree that it’s okay for their colleges to prohibit smoking.
August 27, 2007 – A new state law that allows kindergarten through 12th-grade students to administer their own asthma and severe allergy medications is aiming to reduce hospitalizations and school absenteeism. The enactment of Senate Bill 1040 comes as asthma emergency room and hospitalization rates spike in September—a seasonal “back-to-school asthma” phenomenon.
August 20, 2007 – Portland-based Guardian Management becomes the largest property management company to date to implement a no-smoking policy company-wide. The new policy will affect 6,500 residential units in Oregon alone.
July 26, 2007 – The nation’s oldest voluntary health organization has created a new regional division, the American Lung Association of the Mountain Pacific, to oversee operations in Oregon, Hawaii, Montana and Wyoming.
May 1, 2007 - Oregon received a range of grades from As to Fs in the just-released American Lung Association’s State of the Air 2007 report. The report ranked cities and counties across the nation with the cleanest and dirtiest air and provided report cards on the two most pervasive air pollutants: soot (particle pollution) and smog (ozone).
April 2007 – The American Lung Association of Oregon (ALAO), in conjunction with Multnomah County Health Department and Clark County Public Health (WA), unveil a new website and guidebook to assist landlords in implementing smokefree housing policies.
April 18, 2007 – The American Lung Association of Oregon (ALAO), with sponsor Nike, honored Lindarose Allaway today with the 2007 Alberto Salazar “Asthma in Action Award” for increasing awareness about, and advancing and educating people with asthma throughout Oregon. The award is named for Salazar, an asthmatic who set a world record in marathon running.
March 1, 2007 – The American Thoracic Society (ATS) has selected Dr. Louis Libby as the recipient of its national 2007 Outstanding Clinician Award (OCA). Libby is the Executive Vice President of The Oregon Clinic, located in Northeast Portland.
