Freedom From Smoking®

The American Lung Association in Oregon's Freedom From Smoking® program offers a variety of methods to help you quit smoking:

  • Self Help Guide - This 56-page Freedom From Smoking® guide enables individual smokers to select segments that are appropriate for his/her stage in the quitting process. The self-help guide, including a relaxation CD and shipping, may be purchased for $15. Order now.
  • Classes - Freedom from SmokingŪ, the leading adult smoking cessation program for over 25 years, shows you how to quit for good in a supportive setting. It's the best thing you can do for yourself and your family. Taught by American Lung Association-trained instructors, you'll learn in a small group setting how to stay smoke free for good.   • Online - The Freedom From SmokingŪ program now available online for those who don't have the time to go to a support group. It is available 24 hours a day to help fit in your busy schedule
  • Call Center - The Lung Helpline will provide you with immediate, clear and accurate information for your questions about lung health - including tobacco cessation. Call: 1-800-LUNG-USA, Monday - Friday, 7 am - 9 pm (Central time).

 

Employer-Offered Smoking Cessation Programs

As an employer or business, you can lower your healthcare costs and support healthy choices for your employees by offering our different Freedom From Smoking® packages:

  • On-site Freedom From Smoking® Clinic - The clinic is delivered in a small group setting (up to 16 people) as an onsite program to give participants personalized attention and the support of their peers. It is taught by American Lung Association-trained instructors who come to your workplace to guide your employees through the quitting process.   • Employee-delivered Clinic­ – The American Lung Association offers training programs for employees at your workplace to become Freedom From Smoking® clinic facilitators. These employees can then host clinics for your employees, offering support from within your organization. To learn more about becoming an American Lung Association certified facilitator, download our informational pdf or register online.
  • Freedom From Smoking® Online – The Freedom From Smoking® program is offered online as well, for individuals who don’t have time to attend scheduled clinics or counseling sessions. Available 24-hours a day. To learn more about how you can create customized access to FFS Online for your employees, contact: healthinfo@lungoregon.org.  
  • Lung Helpline (1-800-LUNG-USA)– Counseling services are offered through the Lung Helpline, which is staffed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists and smoking cessation specialists. As an employer you can set your employees up with our Proactive Lung Helpline program, which provides scheduled calls over a period of time to coach individuals through the quitting process and provide information when needed. NOT On Tobacco

NOT On Tobacco is The American Lung Association's voluntary program to help teens:

  • Stop smoking or reduce the number of cigarettes they smoke
  • Increase their healthy lifestyle behaviors
  • Improve their life-management skills

N-O-T is the most researched, most widely used, most successful smoking cessation program for teens in the United States. Since 1999, N-O-T has been well received by more than 150,000 teens in 48 states. To learn more, go to www.notontobacco.com. Oregon Tobacco Quit Line - Call Toll-free English: 1-800-QUIT NOW (1-800-784-8669) or Spanish: 1-877-266-3863

The Quit Line offers free help from people who know what you’re going through.  When you or a loved one call, you get personalized advice and support.  And it is confidential.

The helpful staff is there for you 5 am to midnight every day. If you call after hours, you can leave your number and someone will call you back within one business day.  There are also recorded quit tips to help you get started.

The Quit Line is provided by the Oregon Department of Human Services Tobacco Prevention and Education Program.
