Fresh Air for Little Noses is a program of the American Lung Association of Oregon designed to:
- Reduce children's exposure to secondhand smoke
- Help children manage their asthma
- Encourage friends and loved ones to quit smoking
Though the program is no longer funded to provide ongoing trainings, we want to make materials and resources available for Oregon Head Start Programs to integrate the following elements into their ongoing practices:
- To adopt and enforce school policies and practices that reduce exposure to secondhand smoke, provide healthy modeling and prevent asthma attacks.
- To identify students who are exposed to secondhand smoke by using recommended questions for health intake forms.
- To provide materials for health specialists, family advocates, teachers and other staff about secondhand smoke prevention, asthma control and being a cessation motivator.
- To have staff work with parents to make desired changes in their home environment and their family rules to reduce exposure to secondhand smoke, provide healthy modeling and prevent asthma attacks.
- To have a supply of educational aids (video, flipchart, Quit Line brochures etc.) on site to educate parents on these topics. To order, as long as supplies last, Fresh Air for Little Noses supplies click here.
